Classic Dino Books

So many books, so little time on the subject of dinosaurs!

Danny and the Dinosaur by Sid Hoff. Originally published over 50 years ago, this beloved classic is a Level 1 I Can Read is perfect for the beginning reader. Danny and his prehistoric playmate have more fun than this dinosaur has had in a hundred million years!



How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight? by Jane Yolen, illus. Mark Teague. This one started a whole series! The little humans will recognize their “tricks of the trade” of bedtime behavior.


Patrick’s Dinosaurs by Carol Carrick, illus. by Donald Carrick. One Saturday while visiting the zoo, Hank tells his brother Patrick all about dinosaurs, and Patrick scares himself by imagining what it would be like if the great creatures were alive today.

What the Dinosaurs Did Last Night: A Very Messy Adventure by Refe & Susan Tum. A group of rogue dinosaurs seek misadventure, since they "aren't very good at following the rules." Reminiscent of the humor and themes from the movie Toy Story (toys come alivwhen children go to sleep), this book is a collection of photographs inspired from the Tuma’s Dinovember collections on social media. Scenes range from mud-filled messes, art inspired graffiti as "sometimes they go too far" and spray paint each other, to images of the dinos playing in the laundry room, where the authors' warn that "dinosaurs are dry clean only." All ages will enjoy the rockling dino antics.

Dinosaur Bob and His Adventures with the Family Lazardo by William Joyce. The Lazardo family brings back a peculiar souvenir from their trip to Africa - a dinosaur! Ah, but Bob is the friendly sort of dinosaur - the kind who enjoys playing the trumpet and tossing around a baseball.

We Don’t Eat Our Classmates by Ryan T. Higgins. It's the first day of school for Penelope Rex, and she can't wait to meet her classmates. But it's hard to make human friends when they're so darn delicious!

Mamasaurus by Stephan Lomp. Are you my Mother? for the dino set. This colorful and reassuring picture book follows Babysaurus on an adventure as he enlists his prehistoric friends to seek his Mamasaurus. Is his Mamasaurus the fastest in the jungle? No. Is she the loudest? No. Is she the best flyer? No! Of course, Mamasaurus has been right there all along. And when Babysaurus needs a little help, she is ready with a big hug and a sweet, leafy snack.

Dinosaurs on the Go Boxed Set by Penny Dale. This was the perfect gift when Jack was three. Penny Dale's dinosaur books have it all: construction vehicles and all sorts of cars, trucks, trains, helicopters, and rescue vehicles with dinosaurs. Tons of kid appeal, bursting with noise and energy and a surprise ending and so many toddler joy hot spots - counting, colors, dinos. vehicles, rescue vehicles, a surprise party, construction, birthday cake and presents; am I missing anything?!
