Science Museum Omnifest

  • Science Museum of Minnesota 120 West Kellogg Boulevard Saint Paul, MN, 55102 United States (map)

In 2019, we're celebrating 20 years of Omnifest!

Our popular giant screen film festival returns to the Omnitheater, bringing five visitor favorites that will whisk you away on great adventures. Join in a shuttle mission to construct the International Space Station, ride shotgun in the Tornado Intercept Vehicle and chase after deadly storms, get a front row seat for the eruptions of some of the world's most famous volcanoes, and much more.

Making this year's fest even more special is the fact that the Science Museum - the largest museum-based producer of giant screen films - played a role in producing each film.

With a diverse film line-up that appeals to all ages and interests and a Minnesota tie to each film that can make each of us proud, Omnifest 2019 is an ideal destination this winter. I want to see ALL of them! Show Times and tickets

Space exploration didn’t end with the conclusion of the Space Shuttle program. Rather, some of the most exciting missions of our time lie ahead: from capturing asteroids to landing astronauts on Mars. Journey to Space features magnificent giant screen views of Earth and footage of remarkable operations in space – including the deployment and repair of the famous Hubble Space Telescope. Remember our past space exploration accomplishments, including the Shuttle launches and the assembly of the International Space Station (ISS). You'll discover that these programs have taught us how to live, build, and conduct science in space - and led us to our next giant leaps into space. Run time: 42 minutes | All ages

Only the Omnitheater’s nine-story domed screen can do justice to the great circle of volcanoes that rings the Pacific Ocean. In this Science Museum of Minnesota original production, you'll have a front row seat for the spectacular eruptions of Mount St. Helens and Sakurajima in Japan. See the birth of a new volcano in southern Chile, and meet people who live within the shadows of some of the world’s most active volcanoes. Run time: 38 minutes | All ages

National Parks Adventure takes you on the ultimate off-trail experience into America’s great outdoors. Soar over red rock canyons, up craggy mountain peaks that touch the clouds, and into other-worldly realms found within America’s most legendary outdoor playgrounds. Get a close-up look at the relentless strength of nature’s most dramatic – and least understood – weather phenomena. Run time: 43 minutes | All ages
